Networks In Motion (NIM) has acquired real-time traffic information provider, TrafficGauge.
The acquisition will strengthen NIM’s team as it develops the next generation of the company’s Traffic Sharing System, building on the foundation of traffic feeds that were introduced in the fourth version of the NAVBuilder platform.
Doug Antone, president & CEO of Networks In Motion, said that the acquisition will enable NIM to leverage the company’s data-aggregation server technology to further enhance the usability of NIM’s navigation applications.
“This quantum leap in traffic flow accuracy, along with superior information about conditions used when calculating detours, will better meet customer expectations on traffic avoidance,” said Antone.
Antone pointed out that the acquisition will enhance NIM’s existing services and does not mark a departure from the company’s focus on location-based services for mobile phones.
NIM has no plans to enter the merchant traffic data business; the acquisition did not include TrafficGauge’s hardware devices business, customer base, service contracts or Web properties.
